Kolkata, Sep 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the West Bengal Police to provide adequate armed security to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra after she was targeted with eggs during a recent visit to her Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya ordered that whenever Mahua Moitra enters her Lok Sabha constituency, two police personnel should be deployed with her so that no one can harass her in any way or she does not face any problems.
However, this police security will be provided for 30 days.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on October 1.
On the day the Calcutta High Court gave this order, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra from Krishnanagar faced protests while attending a party programme in Nadia district's Chapra.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya's observation on Tuesday was that Mahua Moitra will inform the police in advance on which dates she will visit her Lok Sabha constituency.
Security arrangements will be made accordingly.
Approaching the Calcutta High Court, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra said that protests are being held around her whenever she visits her Lok Sabha constituency.
She alleged that there is a 'politically motivated' disturbance. As a result, she is unable to do the work of the common man as an MP.
Mahua Moitra's lawyer Kalyan Banerjee said that whenever she goes to her Lok Sabha constituency, eggs, potatoes, and stones are being thrown at his client.
As an MP, she has not been provided security, he added.
"The MPs who have recently left Trinamool Congress and joined other political parties are being provided security. But those who have not joined any other party are being attacked."
Hearing this argument, the Calcutta High Court judge said that attacking an MP is not desired.
"The state should deal with the matter strictly. It should be ensured that MPs are not hindered in their work in their own areas."
While the Calcutta High Court was saying this, the Trinamool MP faced protests again in Nadia's Chapra.
It is alleged that black flags were shown around her car while she was leaving after the Trinamool Congress workers' conference.
Along with this, 'Go back' slogans were also raised at Mahua Moitra.
Moitra allegedly accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters for the attack on her.
Political tension spread in the area surrounding the incident following which police reached the spot to control the situation.
Speaking to the media earlier in the day, the Trinamool MP said, "This chaos is being created with the help of party defectors and the BJP."
Attacking the leaders who left Trinamool Congress, Mahua Moitra called them 'dishonest'.
She also mentioned the punitive action against the members of the Zilla Parishad for anti-party activities.
At the same time, she strongly protested the harassment of Trinamool Congress workers by creating police and administrative pressure.
On the other hand, Chapra BJP IT cell in-charge Gopal Das and local resident Ambarjit Roy alleged that Mahua Moitra is behind the unrest, drug trade and extortion politics in the Chapra area.
It has also been claimed that common people have shown this black flag in protest against the accusation of insulting Hindu gods and goddesses and the BJP was not involved in this incident.
